家族支援 (Family Support)

家族支援 ("kazoku-shien" i.e. "family support" in Japanese) is a short-term project that aims to investigate the design of ubiquitous systems that support familial relationships within multi-generational families living apart on a regular basis. This project was started in October 2006 to validate and complement findings from the Fair Seed project, notably regarding age-related issues, while providing a useful system.

So far, the project has involved 4 experts, which led to 3 talks at international conferences. You will find below a description of the project team, an outline of our progress, and an overview of our dissemination process.

The current team includes two students and two full-time researchers:

Progress

We have proposed two successive designs for a wearable system that evaluates the wearer's state and informs family members connected to Internet in real-time, to improve affective bonding and support, using location, movement and biological sensors. The system exploits emotional design and should be usable by children, parents and grand-parents during their usual activities because we want to learn from, and propose a system usable in, the real-world. We paid special attention to privacy issues because we exploit information related to activities, emotions and health.

In the coming months, we will implement the system and test the interface with young people, young adults, and older adults in Asia and Europe. Later, we will consider the use of haptic interfaces such as the to facilitate communication for people with visual disabilities. Collaborations with innovative laboratories such as those of the are under consideration.
